Each year Reform Congregations throughout the United States honor the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by commemorating the Shabbat nearest to MLK Day at Shabbat Tzedek. On this Shabbat we will remember the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and celebrate the hard-fought victories of the civil rights movement. Reform Jews played a vital role in the fight for racial equality, voting rights and more and this service is a time for reflection and recommitment to these important causes.

This year we are thrilled to have as our guest speaker Traci D. Ellis, an attorney human resources professional, and diversity and inclusion champion. Ellis, who was selected as the keynote speaker for last year’s Village of Hoffman Estates Annual Breakfast honoring the Legacy of Dr King, will discuss the legacy of Dr. King, with a focus on how he was more of a radical in his day than society tends to collective remember. Her message is sure to be provocative and inspiring, challenging us to think more deeply on social justice issues relating to poverty, racism, criminal justice and educational equity. We hope you will be able to join us for this important and meaningful service.
