Beth Tikvah COVID-19 Update

Updated March 19, 2020

To Our Beth Tikvah Congregation,

All throughout the world we are watching the spread and potential threat posed by the Coronavirus, COVID-19. At the time of this email we have not been informed that anyone at Beth Tikvah Congregation has been exposed or has tested positive for COVID-19.

From all the information we continue to gather, and from the steps that we have already adopted, it has become clear that drastically limiting the risk of exposure to all the people we care about needs to be our most important priority. Avoiding large social gatherings and mitigating exposure in any way is how we can do our part to prevent the wider spread of this deadly disease.

Beth Tikvah Congregation will be postponing ALL congregational activities, events, and meetings through April 15th.

This includes:

  • Torah Study (canceled for Saturday, March 14 and may be held virtually for future sessions)
  • Religious School as of Sunday, March 15 through Tuesday, April 14th. At this time, Religious School will resume on Sunday April 19th. (This includes the already scheduled Spring and Passover break)
  • All Sisterhood events
  • All Men's Club events
  • All Auxiliary meetings
  • Zoom Shabbat, on Friday, March 20 8:00 pm, will be a special, interactive, Shabbat experience utilizing the power of Zoom Conference calling. You can join in with video, using your computer, smart phone or tablet. You can also join audibly (without video) by calling in with your touch-tone phone.  This service will NOT be live-streamed.

Shabbat services will be held via technology/remote access. We do encourage you to participate virtually and please be on the lookout for more information and instructions.

The Early Childhood Program is closed until further notice. Thank you all for your support of the ECC staying open. Dist 15 and 54 are closed beginning on Monday, and we will be too. Our planned spring break is the following week, and we will reevaluate what is going on, to see if we will reopen on Monday March 30th.

Our office will be open and clergy will be available. We will do our best to reach out in many creative ways to check in. Though we can’t be physically together as a community, we know our strong connections will keep us close. Rabbi Tachman and Cantorial Leader Ilana Axel will be available via phone, text, email, or FaceTime for pastoral needs. In the event of a death or emergency, please do not hesitate to contact Rabbi Tachman at 773-896-5990 or by email: rabbi@beth-tikvah.org.

As more information becomes available, we will be in touch with you about our community schedule for the remainder of April and beyond. It is imperative that we have your most up-to-date contact information. Please log into your ShulCloud account now and update your email address and cell phone number. If you need assistance please reach out to the ShulCloud team by clicking HERE.

Having reached the level of pandemic, these types of decisions are never easy and there is a huge downside to not being together, especially during these difficult days. We pray for the health and welfare of all of our members and all of their loved ones and our greater community. May God protect all of us during this difficult time.

B’Shalom,

Deb Bakal, President
Rabbi Taron Tachman
Clergy and Staff of Beth Tikvah Congregation
