I am excited to write my first email as President of the Congregation to let you know some wonderful news. Ellyn Weisz, Director of Beth Tikvah Congregation’s Early Childhood Center, has been named the 2021 Sue Pinsky Award for Excellence in Jewish Education.
The Sue Pinsky Award for Excellence in Jewish Education in Chicago is given annually through the JUF. This Teacher of the Year award was established through an endowment by her family, in honor of Sue Pinsky a long time Jewish educator who has been an educator for 50 years. Each year a remarkable Jewish early childhood educator is picked by a committee from over 100 nominations of individuals. The winning teacher receives a $4,000 cash award and the school will receive $1,000. An award ceremony will take place in the fall.
Ellyn was nominated by two different parents in the program. Ellyn’s love and dedication to Beth Tikvah Congregation’s Early Childhood Center and the children and families it serves is remarkable. This award and honor could not have gone to a more deserving recipient. We are lucky to have Ellyn leading the ECC at Beth Tikvah Congregation. Ellyn has been an educator for over 45 years.
On a personal note, I know how challenging this year has been for many in education. Thanks to Ellyn, our ECC, continued to operate seamlessly, safely and successfully. The children of the ECC benefitted and it is so wonderful to see Ellyn be recognized for her dedication this year – and every year!
Please join me in a warm congratulations to Ellyn. Mazel Tov!
