Finding the right early childhood program can be confusing and overwhelming. What is it you want your child to gain being in preschool?
The following is a list of some ideas to help you navigate the best program choice for your child and your family.
Are the teachers highly qualified?
Do they like children? (It seems like a silly question, but it really isn’t.)
Are the teachers nurturing and caring?
Do they participate in ongoing professional development?
Is the student-teacher ratio small?
Are the classes developmentally appropriate for young children?
Is there open communication between the teachers and parents?
Are the classrooms clean and orderly?
Does the school promote positive relationships with the children and the families?
Are the children engaged, learning, comfortable, and happy?
Is there ample free choice/play time for children to work on life skills, problem solving skills, and brain development?
Are the needs of the children socially, cognitively, physically, and emotionally being met?
Is there outdoor—or a large indoor—space for the children to run and develop their large motor skills?
Does your child have to be toilet trained? (Here they don’t have to be.)
Are family relationships and belonging to a community encouraged?
Have the children gained a sense of pride in belonging to the Jewish community, excited by the holidays, doing mitzvot and learning Jewish values?
I hope this checklist helps you know that the ECC is the BEST place for your child/children. We work hard on achieving all the above and more. Please feel free to contact me, so we can talk about why we want to welcome you to be a part of the ECC family/community. I look forward to hearing from you.
