The Attitude of Gratitude!

Pre-K and Kindergarten have been learning about some Jewish values and mitzvot.

We have focused on Hoda’ah which means being thankful for what you have.  We also talked about Hakarat Hatov, which means to be thankful for things in our life that are not always material.  We created a Gratitude Wall and the yeladim drew pictures of things that they are grateful for.

We read stories on these values such as Bagels for Benny which explores the values of caring and sharing, sense of community and finding joy in giving thanks.

We are also learning Hebrew words such as keshet (rainbow).  We made a keshet with fruit loops and marshmallows.

We have been learning about Hanukkah and how it celebrates Judah Maccabbee and his small army of Macabbees who took back the Jewish Temple after it was destroyed by Antiochus and his large army.  Once we were familiar with the story, we jumped right into some fun activities such as creating Hanukkiahs, reading fun Hanukkah stories, making dreidels, making and eating edible dreidels, playing the dreidel game and Hanukkah Bingo.

Have a very Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year!  I very much look forward to seeing the children in the new year! Thank you for sharing them with me!
