Summary |
Shalom is the final Jewish value our students will learn about this year. This value is incredibly fitting as we wrap up the year and say “goodbye” to our senior class and “hello” to our tenth grade confirmands.
While Shalom means both hello and goodbye, it also means so much more. “Shalom” is taken from the root word shalam, which means, “to be safe in mind, body, or estate.” As we send our seniors off and they leave our little house of hope it is our continual prayer that they are safe in mind, body, and estate. Shalom to our 2019 senior class!
Yet another meaning of shalom is to have a feeling of wholeness, fullness, or completeness. This feeling or sense is what that encourages you or guides your actions and desires to give back or generously re-pay something in some way. Our tenth grade students have spent the 2018-2019 school year exploring and reaffirming their commitment to Judaism. We look forward to their continued participation at Beth Tikvah as they become our newest leaders. We cannot wait to see their numerous accomplishments over the next two years. Shalom to our 2019 confirmands.
A final meaning we would like to point out for shalom is completeness. As in feeling fulfilled and complete. This school year has been full of exciting school activities, grade level get togethers, Shabbat dinners, and amazing life cycle events. As we give our final Shalom we of course are giving it with much anticipation for the 2019-2020 school year.
We look forward to saying shalom (welcome) to all of our religious school families on September 8th as we begin our new religious school year together in which we will foster new friendships, embrace new connections, and continue to learn together as a community. Please be sure to complete the online Religious School registration form (https://tinyurl.com/2019BTCReligiousSchoolReg) at home or during religious school during the month of May.
Shalom!
