At her installation, Deb Bakal, our Congregational President shared her vision. It is a beautiful idea and a theme we intend to carry as we work to grow and improve Beth Tikvah’s Religious School over the upcoming year.
Below is an excerpt from Deb Bakal’s speech:
Imagine us at a wedding or B’nei Mitzvah-all of us, our entire congregation. There is a joyful hora and many are in circles dancing and laughing. But there are those on the outside. It is hard to break in-everyone is moving. But I see some of us, many of us, reaching out and pulling in the outsiders. Some are thrilled to join, others more reluctant, but ultimately we are all dancing together-in big circles and in small circles in circles within circles and we are one.
We ARE one. Join the rikkud this year in any way that you are comfortable, but join. There are several ways to get involved in the religious education of your child(ren). When you registered your student(s) there were several volunteer opportunities available. You may want to consider spending Sunday morning or Tuesday evening schmoozing at temple and connecting with other parents to build social connections. Perhaps you’d like to spend some time brushing up on your own Jewish education?
Wherever you “break-into” the circle is terrific, and if you need help with your dance moves just ask us! We are more than happy to help you.
Our tango (the Opening Day of Religious School) begins on Sunday, September 8th. It is also Ruach (Spirit) Day, so be sure to wear your Beth Tikvah Spirit-Wear!
Students will follow a typical religious school schedule which is outlined below:
9:00 - 11:30 Early Session Students grades Pre-K-5th
(All early session students will meet in their assigned classrooms)
10:30 - 1:00 Late Session Students grades 6th-12th
(All late session students will begin their day in the Sanctuary for T'filah)
Parents are invited to collect information for each class their child(ren) will attend this year as well as general religious school information from the chaveyron
9:00 - 11:00 - Mingle and Class Information with Sock Hop Snacks
11:00 - 11:30 - Principal’s Ball (Question & Answer Session)
If you have not already done so, please remember to register your student(s) for the 2019-2020 school year. Please contact us with any questions you may have at educator@beth-tikvah.org.
We look forward to dancing with you!
