First grade has been busy learning all about the days of creation. We learned how G-d made darkness and light, the sky and sea, animals and people, fish and stars...and how G-d’s day of rest became our Shabbat. We learned things children can do on Shabbat (rest, read, play board games, walk…) and some blessings people say on Shabbat.
Hanukkah is fast approaching and we started the topic by discussing a WANT vs. a NEED. The children did a nice job distinguishing things like toys and games as a want, and food and shelter as needs. We learned how to play dreidel, made mosaic dreidels and then foil dreidel door hangers. We used beads, foil, pipe cleaners and markers to make these as festive as possible. Have a wonderful winter break and a Happy Hanukkah!
