Dancing with the Stars (of David)!

The Book of Esther begins and ends with dance. It begins when Vashti, the wife of King Achashverosh refuses to dance before his intoxicated male friends at the King’s lavish party. The story ends as the Jews who were bowed with sorrow and fear over Haman’s evil plot to annihilate them, witness Haman’s demise and they celebrate their good fortune with feasting and gladness, and (I would guess) dancing.

This Purim, in the spirit of our annual congregational theme: “Join the Dance” and in the spirit of Purim itself, we continue the joyous tradition of celebrating our lives with gratitude (and dance) as we bring to you our original production of “Dancing with the Stars (of David).” Though I and a few others are still in the process of writing and producing this new parody of the Purim story based on the hit TV show, we are sure it will be a lot of fun. We look forward to seeing you for our pre-Purim celebration on Sunday, March 8th, beginning with a Megillah reading and Purim Shpiel at 11am which will be followed by our wonderful annual Purim Carnival. (All proceeds from the carnival will benefit our teen youth group programs.) On the actual evening of Purim,  Monday, March 9th at 7pm we will again be reading Megillah along with a short evening T’fillah service followed by an oneg. We hope to see you at either or both events as we together dance with joy as we celebrate the goodness that is our lives! Chag Sameach! Happy Purim!

B’shalom, Rabbi Taron Tachman
